The plants outside the window form a canopy which absorbs the sun and moon and provides shade for the beings below. In this way, the canopy is like a spell that protects us from the perils of the outside world.
Were the sun and moon not with us, our eyes would tire and our vision would fail. In the spell of the sky goddesses, the constellations would melt into nothing but a din of broken songs.
